August is National Wellness Month! Here are a few things you can do to live a healthier, happier life!

National Wellness Month Aug6th 2021

Wellness can mean a lot of things. It can include physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. These may seem like difficult things to achieve, however, there are small steps we can take to live a healthier, happier life! During National Wellness Month here are a few things you can focus on:

  1. Get more exercise! The body needs to move. This is important for our joints, bones and helps elevate our mood and natural hormones. Just 30 minutes a day can make a big impact.

2. Drink more water! Our bodies are made up of about 60% water and requires constant replenishing. Equally important, during hot summer months. Just plan ahead and drink early in the day.

3. Get more sleep! While there certainly are key factors that influence our sleep, it is still important to get an adequate amount. Furthermore, our bodies need it to effectively work and fight off diseases.

4. Cut back on sugar! Sugar kills our defending white blood cells and increases our sugar levels in our bodies. Often it also gives us a sugar “high”, but then a sugar “crash”. In addition, when consumed in large amounts for prolonged periods, it drives resistance to insulin.

5. Get outside! Spending time outdoors has so many great benefits for us mentally and physically. Moreover, it helps our mood, increases serotonin “feel good chemicals”, as well as increase our activity levels.

6. Eat more greens! Adding fruits and vegetables to diet has profound effects on our bodies. For example, reduce blood pressure, reduce the risk heart disease and so much more!

7. Get more social! It’s no secret that we feed off of human interaction and ultimately, we require it. Regardless if it’s by phone, computer, in person, we all have ways to reach the people in our lives.

Conclusion:

National Wellness Month may be in August, but there are plenty of ways we can live better every single day! These small steps go a long way for our physical and mental wellbeing. Give them a try!
